Second Grade Tutoring

Second grade builds on foundational skills as students begin working with more complex texts, written responses, and mathematical concepts. Tutoring can strengthen core skills while helping students become more confident and independent learners.

Learning targets may include:

  • Applying advanced phonics and decoding strategies to increasingly complex and multisyllabic words
  • Strengthening oral reading fluency, accuracy, and comprehension
  • Using comprehension strategies such as summarizing, inference, vocabulary, and main idea
  • Developing organized paragraph writing with complete sentences, grammar, capitalization, and punctuation
  • Adding and subtracting within 1,000 using place value and problem-solving strategies
  • Building math fact fluency and flexible mental-math strategies
  • Solving and understanding increasingly complex word problems
  • Building foundations in multiplication, money, time, fractions, and geometry
  • Developing academic confidence, stamina, organization, and independent learning habits

Individualized Learning

Sessions are tailored to each student's current skills and needs. Learning targets may be adjusted as skills develop and new areas of growth are identified.
