First Grade Tutoring

First grade is an important year for strengthening foundational reading skills and developing greater independence in writing and math. Tutoring builds on each student's current abilities while supporting fluency, comprehension, and problem-solving.

Learning targets may include:

  • Phonemic awareness, letter-sound knowledge, and high-frequency word recognition
  • Decoding and blending words with increasing accuracy and fluency
  • Reading and spelling with increasingly complex phonics patterns
  • Reading fluency and beginning comprehension
  • Handwriting, sentence formation, capitalization, and punctuation
  • Composing and decomposing numbers through 120 using place value and base-ten understanding
  • Addition and subtraction fluency within 20 using multiple strategies
  • Word-problem comprehension, missing-addend problems, and mathematical reasoning

Individualized Learning

Sessions are tailored to each student's current skills and needs. Learning targets may be adjusted as skills develop and new areas of growth are identified.
